God-Talk 4 - Negative heroes |

God-Talk 4
A weekly challenge think a bit!
Negative heroes
All historical chronicles of this world have one thing in common: They
only show their heroes in the most brilliant light. No king, no regime
would allow that the negative news about them are spread officially.
Did you ever notice that the bible is different? When it talks about
David, the most successful king of the Old Testament, it openly accuses
him of adultery and murder. Of Moses, the great freedom fighter who led
his people out of Egypt, we read that he behave like a coward when God
called him. Later he failed as an organizer and in following God’s
orders. Peter, the great apostle, is said to have denied Jesus 3 times.
He didn’t understand what Jesus’ purpose was and Jesus rebuked him:
“Get behind me, Satan”
Why did the writers of the bible not hide these facts? Why was honesty
more important to them than the reputation of their heroes? Could it be
that they did it, because God thought that these things would be
important for us to read and to identify ourselves with these ancient
believers?
Psalm 33:4 "For the word of the Lord is right and true; he is faithful in
all he does."
