God-Talk 43
A weekly challenge to think a bit!
Most people who believe that there is a god, believe that he is just, good and loving. And they argue, a loving god should not hold people accountable for their life. Shouldn’t he know that human beings can’t do any better? Thus why would he judge them for what they are?
What people don’t realize is that good and evil just can’t live together. How could a perfectly loving God tolerate evil deeds in his presence? Wouldn’t that make him evil as well? Thus a holy God, perfect and loving has to have the goal to do away with all evil. And to do that there are actually only two possible ways: Either he could do away with all those that don’t live a loving life – well, this would not give us much of a chance, wouldn’t it? Or he could pursue a strategy to cleanse them from all evil so that they can enjoy his loving presence for ever – and that is what did according to the Bible. That is why God’s judgment is not a threat for those searching after a loving God. They just admit that they need change and receive God’s gracious offer.
Acts 15,9: "...and he made no distinction between us and them, having cleansed their hearts by faith."
